Abigail: Preparing in a time of peace- Part One

"Abigail Wasted no time. She quickly gathered 200 loaves of bread, two wineskins full of wine, five sheep that had been slaughtered, nearly a bushel of roasted grain, 100 clusters of raisins and 200 fig cakes..."(1 Samuel 25:18)

Talk about a woman! Upon hearing of her husband insulting David, and the plans David had over her husband and home, Abigail wasted no time- she had a plan, she was prepared.  Abigail, described as a sensible and beautiful woman (1 Samuel 25:3) was also a woman of wisdom, and humility. In an unexpected time of chaos, when trouble came abruptly, Abigail was prepared. Not only did she have a plan in set, she was ready to execute without hesitation. To be honest, I do not know much women who can QUICKLY [keyword] gather together 200 loaves of bread, 200 fig cakes, and the rest of the things she brought. She had to have been a woman that delegated work wisely and she wasn't slow to get things done. It also goes to show she was well prepared and had what she needed, before she needed it. As she brought her presents to David, the first thing she did was she humbled herself. Taking fault for what she had not done, she surrendered her pride and pleaded for mercy, as well as brought a prophetic word over David. Through her desperation, and the wisdom that she had, she reminded David that when the Lord brings him, where He said He would, to not allow this act of revenge corrupt his innocence. Many times we think, as we live in a season of peace, it is a good reason to rest. Yes, it is, but it is also essential that we have that storage of provision ready to be prepared, the ability to act fast and to not be afraid to humble yourselves. Abigail not only thought of her home and herself, but also had a heart that cared for David and brought warning to Him to remain who he needed to be, before vengeance overcame him. Are we keeping in storage the promises God has given us? Are we walking in the wisdom He grants us? Do we have the fruit of the Spirit, and are we ready to walk in them at once? Are we willing to humble ourselves, our pride and our possessions for those who may not deserve it? Just a few questions I've been reflecting on.
